3 steps
Apply any theme in 3 steps
Runs entirely on your machine, never touches the official Codex bundle, and restores with a single command.
Install the engine
On macOS, double-click Install Codex Dream Skin.command — no Node install needed (it reuses Codex.app's signed bundled Node) and it never touches the official bundle.
Pick image + colors
Double-click Customize.command, choose a background image, enter a name and colors (Miku teal #39C5BB); the script generates theme.json for you.
Apply / restore
It auto-applies via CDP injection over the local loopback 127.0.0.1:9341; double-click Restore to revert in one click, no impact on official updates.
What is a Codex theme / skin?
Codex is one of the most popular AI coding tools today, and a Codex theme (or Codex skin) means restyling the Codex desktop interface — its colors, background and decorative elements — turning the default look into anything you want: an anime character, a festive mood, or a classic developer palette like Dracula, Monokai or Nord.
Because the Codex desktop app is an Electron app whose UI is rendered with web tech, community open-source projects use the Chrome DevTools Protocol (CDP) to inject custom CSS and JavaScript over the local loopback address 127.0.0.1, layering decoration onto the interface. The whole process stays on your machine, makes no external network calls, and never modifies Codex's official .app bundle or code signature — run a Restore script to revert anytime.
Codexskins gathers these theme solutions and turns each palette into a live-preview gallery. Whether you want to download a ready-made theme or learn how to install a Codex theme, switch themes on macOS, or fix a skin broken after an update, you'll find the answer here.
